A Beautiful Day at The Tahoe Donner Cross Country Center

Tahoe Donner, California

If you’ve never visited Tahoe Donner’s wonderful Cross Country Center, don’t delay!

Under normal operating conditions (when there’s lots of snow), trails for striding, ski skating and snowshoeing are open from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. Tahoe Donner’s Cross Country Center offers 54 trails and over 100 kilometers of terrain. There is certainly something for everyone in the family to enjoy!

I ventured out this past weekend with my entire family. Even though our ability levels ranged from beginner to expert, we all had a wonderful time skating and Nordic skiing together. We took in amazing views of mountain peaks and valleys along the way. The scenery is quite spectacular and the weather was sunny and beautiful. Nordic skiing is a great workout too, so it’s a rewarding experience in more than one way.

The Center offers everything you need for a day on the Nordic slopes, and has a full range of rental gear available. If you work up an appetite while out on the snow, just pop into the center for some homemade soup & chili, baked goods and sandwiches. These treats are a well-earned reward after burning many calories out on the trails. Speaking of a nice reward, after our workout we sat outside on the deck and had a beer. With the warm sun shining bright, it was the perfect way to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate a great day Nordic skiing.

With upgrades and improvement plans in the works for the near future, the experience at the Cross Country Center is only going to improve over time. Tahoe Donner is installing a new high-tech grooming reporting system this year, which will use GPS technology to give real-time grooming reports. Also, the board of directors at Tahoe Donner recently gave the green light to begin detailed planning to build a new Cross Country Ski Center as outlined in Tahoe Donner’s 2030 General Plan. This new facility is sure to be a great addition to the long list of wonderful Tahoe Donner amenities.
