Carr Long is a professional Tahoe real estate partnership with over 50 years of combined experience helping families live and play in the North Lake Tahoe area. Carr Long brings a history of high productivity, a strong work ethic and a valuable office location to their family of clients and provides unique marketing opportunities that other companies in the area simply cannot offer.
Our focus is on you and establishing strong, long-term relationships based on trust and an uncompromising commitment to customer service. We love our work and have fun getting to know our clients. As a valued client, you can be assured that we will keep your best interests in heart long after the sale.
We know the Tahoe real estate market and are actively involved in the community. Our children attend local schools, we volunteer our time to community projects that are important to us and most significantly, we work and invest in North Tahoe communities so we truly have our fingers on Tahoe’s real estate pulse. We have access to the latest Tahoe real estate information that helps us negotiate and get the very best for our clients, every time.
My wife, Hale, and I lived in four different ski resort towns before settling in Truckee to raise our family. Our kids are now living the childhood of our dreams, skiing every weekend in winter and sailing and camping on Lake Tahoe in summer. What an amazing place for children to grow up, and for a family to play together. I have to pinch myself sometimes when I look around to make sure it’s not a dream that I actually live here.
I arrived in Tahoe in 2001, at the beginning of the renaissance of the North Tahoe region. Working in real estate has been a very rewarding way to be involved in some of these changes. It provides a constant source of opportunities to meet fascinating people, to see beautiful homes, and to help families create meaningful traditions of enjoying all the wonders of our region.
I saw the opportunity to join my professional talents with those of Tori Long as the ultimate no-brainer. I have never met a more profoundly gifted real estate agent in my life and am honored to have opened a real estate office with her as my business partner. We elevate each other’s attributes, and we both have strong support from our respective families.
Our mission is for our business to be extremely well regarded for caring above all about our clients, our real estate colleagues and our team at Carr Long Real Estate.
I feel so fortunate to live, work and play in the Truckee -Tahoe area. Since 2002 I have had the privilege of helping over 100 families fulfill their dreams of owning in this wonderful mountain community and have met some of the most kind and generous people, many who have become dear friends and neighbors over the years.
I love that I am able to be an active participant in this beautiful area. Whether I am playing golf, skiing or simply taking a family stroll in my neighborhood, I am able to enjoy this special lifestyle. As an avid golfer, I decided in 2005 that Old Greenwood would be the ideal place to live and raise my family and have never looked back.
I believe this commitment to living and working in Truckee-Tahoe also helps my clients feel more confident in their decision to own in the area. My professional and personal experiences have ingrained within me a steadfast confidence and demonstrate my belief that the real estate in North Lake Tahoe is truly unique.
My respect for Don Carr’s abilities in the profession of real estate is unending. Don’s amazing ability to provide our clientele with supreme customer service, knowledge, expertise and repeatedly successful real estate negotiations continues to remind me of the amazing capabilities and talent Don brings to Carr Long Real Estate on an almost daily basis. It is with this deep respect for Don’s professional skills that I am so honored to be working with him. Ultimately, we bring a valuable and dynamic element to Carr Long Real Estate as we are motivated with an unbridled enthusiasm to perform in the North Lake Tahoe Real estate market.
I have always been outdoor oriented and gravitate to opportunities where I can work with people. I became a golf enthusiast during my high school years in Lebanon, PA. I played on the golf team at the University of Richmond and was team captain my senior year. On graduating from college I moved to Hobe Sound, FL to work in the golf business as a teaching and playing professional. After dedicating almost 10 years to the game of golf, I decided the time was perfect to reinvent myself in a new career and a new part of the country.
Tori Long and I have been lifelong friends. We grew up in the same hometown and our families have always been very close. We took family ski vacations together when we were younger and Tori has been a long time golfing buddy. Through her love and fascination for all things Tahoe, I became captivated by the attractions of living in Tahoe, where I could have the best of both worlds – golf in the summer and skiing in the winter.
It was with Tori’s encouragement that I came west to join the Carr Long team. I joined Carr Long in 2011 as the Director of Business Development, which was a perfect fit for my education background in business and finance. I quickly realized I wanted to get back on the front line and work with people again, so I pursued my real estate license and became licensed. I really enjoy working with and meeting new people, and being a part of Carr Long has afforded every opportunity to do just that. Don and Tori help make doing what we do fun and exciting. Their committed work ethic is admirable and contagious, and their unwavering dedication to the needs and well-being of clients makes them ideal mentors.
Best of all, Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. When I’m not playing golf or enjoying the ski slopes, I enjoy taking in some of the many community happenings in the Truckee-Tahoe area. Truckee Thursdays, Concerts in the Park, the weekly Farmers Market, or taking a drive to one of the many area attractions, I’m constantly discovering all that living in this wonderful mountain environment can offer.
Life is full of chapters. The one chapter that has remained constant in our lives is our love for Lake Tahoe and Northstar. Our first introduction to Tahoe was hours after the big quake of 89 that took out the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. My husband and I were currently living in Little Rock, Arkansas and staying in San Francisco for a convention. We were riding a double decker tour bus just having completed a tour of the Muir Woods. We had circled down by the wharf and dropped several families off at the World Series game and had ventured back up to Market Street when the ground started shaking, glass shattering, concrete dropping from tops of buildings. Our thoughts at first were simple – let’s get out of here. We rented a car and headed for Tahoe. Love at first sight! Lightning can strike twice!
Years later we packed our bags and headed west to the Bay Area, Danville became home. Just a short 3 ½ – 7 hours drive to Tahoe, depending on conditions. It was time for these southerners to learn to ski. David was such a sport taking on such an endeavor at the age of 44, I was 37, Austin 7, Amy 5. Our first few years were spent visiting the various mountains and ski resorts; Homewood, Alpine Meadows, Squaw, Heavenly and Northstar. The ski bag was always packed and ready. The kids would get so excited when the 4 wheel drive with ski’s perched on the rack would be waiting in front of school, ready for the weekend mountain adventure. The constant packing, unpacking, hunting for a place to stay got old. We knew we liked the Northstar Mountain and the talk of a new Village was intriguing. We stopped in at Tahoe Mountain Realty to find out more and instantly connected with Tori Long. Tori guided us through one of the best investments we made in our family lifestyle.
We soon became founding members of the Tahoe Mountain Club and owners of a home in the Village. The key word is home, no more schlepping through parking lots with gear, no more packing gear, unpacking gear, forgetting gear. No more racing out of a rental because our time had expired. Now we welcomed a Sunday storm, just call the school and stay another day in our Mountain home. The kids joined the Northstar ski team and became expert skiers instantly and as a super bonus, established life long friendships.
Every mountain, every resort has it’s own personality Northstar projects a fun, safe and comfortable environment. My southern babies became “mountain rats” as we affectionately referred to them; happy exploring the mountain terrain with peers during the day and having fun ice skating, hanging out by the fire pits in the evening, all just steps away from home. The whole families’ circle of friends grew through the social activities at the Alpine Club, Shaffers Camp, and fellow ski team parents, and of course our bay area friends rarely pass on the opportunity to be entertained on the mountain. As David would say many times, I’m living a dream.
Many of our dreams were cut short with Davids’ fatal heart attack in 2007. We miss him and will always love him dearly and cherish the wonderful memories. He loved the mountains and we all feel his presence being in this place he loved. As many have said we came to visit for the winter, we chose to stay for the summer and fall. As the kids grew so have there interests; rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, biking they are loving it all, and there’s no better place to do it all than Tahoe. We also have a new addition to the family, Marti (105lb Golden Doodle) . He loves being in charge and cozying up on the sofa.
The kids are now in college or abroad, so the weekend trips are few and far between. David and I knew we wanted to live or have a home in a place where our children and grandchildren would want to come back to. Northstar has remained a wonderful constant in every chapter of our lives. I fully intend for it to continue.
Thank you Tori for the introduction to mountain life!
I first visited Lake Tahoe when I was in middle school, attending summer camp at the Presbyterian Conference Grounds in South Lake Tahoe. That was the beginning of my love of the Sierra—the mountains, lakes, streams, wildflowers, and seasons.
When I married David Brown in 1972, I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Sierra, and I’ve lived at Northstar permanently since 1973! David was one of the first 5 real estate professionals hired by Fibreboard, the company that was the original developer of Northstar, so I’ve watched Northstar grow from a small, family-centered ski area into the world class resort and real estate development it is today.
Over the years, while David was selling real estate at Northstar, I was teaching high school English at Truckee High School. I was also the Activities Director and Yearbook Advisor for many years, and I loved working with the kids! I still run into former students all over town; some are local architects, realtors, sheriffs, business owners, and teachers!
Following my teaching career, I had the privilege of being a Founder and Past Chairman of the Excellence in Education Foundation. Begun in 1986, the foundation is a renewable resource that provides educational grants and programs, specifically benefitting students in the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. One day, one of our board members was contacted by Bill Hewlett’s lawyer (yes, founder of Hewlett-Packard!) saying Mr. Hewlett wanted to make a $1 million donation to our region to start a community foundation. Along with a handful of others, I was in the right place at the right time when his gift arrived, and I became a Founder and later Board Chairman as the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation emerged. Now the foundation is the leader in local philanthropy. Today I continue in an advisory role for both foundations.
My roots are deep in the Northstar/Truckee area, as I’ve lived here now for over 40 years. A dozen years ago I became a licensed Realtor. I was active for a number of years, took some time off, and now have re-entered the market in 2016. I am honored to be a part of the Carr Long Real Estate team. Not only are Don and Tori extremely knowledgeable, honest, and dedicated Brokers, they are also caring community citizens who volunteer in local non-profit and educational work. Because of their attention to detail and clients’ needs, they are one of the few offices that assists sellers with staging support which helps sellers realize the maximum value for their properties and provides buyers with beautiful turnkey homes! I love our community and working with people and, through my association with Carr Long Real Estate, I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your real estate goals!

Like many east coast transplants, the decision to move West was an easy one to make after laying eyes on the Sierra Mountains for the first time. The transition would prove even easier coming from the long winters endured growing up in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. Prior to migrating, I had been living in New York City where I attended college at New York University. After ten years of many New York "minutes" I decided it was time for a change. I have now called Truckee home for about a decade and continue to find new aspects of this mountain lifestyle to enjoy with each year that passes. Whether it is the connection to the outdoors, the community's natural proclivity for health, the quiet nights, or the clean mountain air, I simply would not trade this lifestyle for any alternative. In the wintertime I enjoy skiing as much as I can and in the warmer months you will always find me running emphatically around the tennis courts and through the local mountain trails. I am proud to be the newest member of the Carr Long team and look forward to helping others find their place here in Truckee.
We recently purchased a home in Martis Camp and used Tori Long as our buyer’s agent. The process was professional, thorough, and seamless. Tori did a great job looking out for our interests and made the transaction go very smoothly. I would highly recommend her for the Northstar/Tahoe area. She’s very personable and knows the area very well.
