It is a familiar story amongst many locals, I originally moved to Tahoe to ski and… stayed. After earning a BA in Economics at Hobart College in Geneva, NY, I came to Lake Tahoe and found employment as a patroller with the Squaw Valley Professional Ski Patrol that first winter in 1976. In subsequent years I brought the idea of an avalanche rescue dog to the forefront and had the first canine on full time duty at a ski resort in the western United States. The off-season from skiing was spent working in construction, soon as a foreman overseeing and coordinating into the mid 1980’s the building of numerous fine custom homes in the area.
It was at a 1983 Christmas party in my parents’ home in Ohio where I had the good fortune of meeting my wife, Linda, a hometown girl who I never knew while living there. Thirty-four years of marriage (and counting) has proven to be the best chance encounter ever. Together here in Tahoe we have raised our daughter and son who are now both married. Our daughter has moved back to Tahoe with her husband (originally from New Zealand) and they continue to embrace the mountain lifestyle. Our son married a lovely gal from North Carolina and is currently living in Virginia with our two grandchildren.
In 1985 I obtained my California Real Estate license and transitioned from building homes to selling them, finding my educational background and hands-on construction knowledge to be a great combination to assist my clients in their real estate decisions.
Upgrading to a California Real Estate Brokers license in 1995 I also became actively involved with the professional, political and governmental aspects of real estate at the statewide level and began my twenty-three year sojourn as a Director with the California Association of Realtors (CAR) representing the greater Tahoe area within Region III and the State of California. I was appointed to and held many leadership positions within CAR along with leadership positions within the local Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors (TSBOR), including President of TSBOR in 1998. I have served continuously as the chair of the TSBOR Local Governmental Relations Committee for seventeen years. During which time I received the award for Realtor of the Year in 1999 and the Bud Jones Distinguished Service Award in 2015. Needless to say, I am very aware that there is much more involved within the business of real estate than simply opening a door.
In 2013, my wife and I purchased a home along the 8th fairway of the Northstar Golf Course and embarked on a thorough remodel of the property in which we are now comfortably ensconced as full-time residents enjoying all of the amenities and privileges of ownership within the Northstar community.
