The PGA Tour Comes to Truckee, CA.
Summer is coming to the Tahoe Basin and with it an official PGA Tour event, the Barracuda Championship, part of the PGA’s FedEx Cup series.
Barracuda, a Bay Area tech company, is once again the official sponsor of the tournament which will be operated by the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization providing financial aid to a large group of charities all intent on improving the lives of those living in the Reno-Tahoe area.
The tournament itself will be held over July 4th weekend, staring on June 29th and finishing on July 5th. It will draw some of the PGA Tour’s top talent, all of whom will be vying for the 3.5 million dollar purse and the 300 FedExCup points.
The new host venue of the Barracuda Championship is the golf course at Old Greenwood, just five minutes east of historic downtown Truckee, CA. Old Greenwood is North Lake Tahoe’s premier resort community and could not be more suitable for this prestigious sporting event.
The course at Old Greenwood is an official Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, owned and operated by Tahoe Mountain Club. This challenging course sits on 600 acres of majestic Sierra Mountain landscape at 6,500 feet above sea level, which will add 10-15 percent of distance onto all shots made.
For sports enthusiasts, nothing beats watching the world’s best athletes perform up close, and the Barracuda Championship will provide that opportunity. The great thing about this event, however, is that it will offer entertainment and fun for all who choose to attend, even for those of us who have never swung a club.
Purchasing a ticket to the tournament will gain you access into the expanded patio area just off the 18thgreen where the Great Clubhouse Cookout will be taking place each day of the tournament. Mouth-watering barbecue and tasty beverages will be served, and if you are member of the military, a veteran, or first responder, entry is free.
Should you want to learn more about the Barracuda Championship and perhaps even attend, go to the event website to purchase tickets or to read up on the history of the tournament, event etiquette, the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation and all things golf!
