Truckee's Best Value for Golf

Ponderosa Golf Course, Truckee, California Last Saturday after a day at work admiring the beautiful weather outside, my associate Mark and I decided to head down to a local golf course for a relaxing hour or two of outside activity. For Mark and I both, it was a first time at this particular course in Tahoe. Named Ponderosa Golf course, it has been a staple in the Tahoe golf scene for the past 53 years. Originally developed by the townspeople of Truckee in 1961, it is now owned and operated by the Airport District with the understanding that the property would only be used for recreational purposes. Mark and I arrived around 6 PM, and after a quick stretch we were off. I am an amateur, and even that may be an overstatement. Mark, on the other hand, has been around golf his entire life and seemed at home as soon as we laced our shoes up. Within the first two shots I was behind, but with Mark teaching me slowly I was able to get into a steady rhythm. In addition to the Ponderosa Course boasting about having the most affordable rates in the Truckee area ($25 for 9 holes after 2:30 PM), Mark and I were also pleasantly challenged by the 3,022 yards along the nine holes. Each hole offers three sets of tee boxes to make for a variety of different experiences for different skill levels, which is always appreciated. After 2 hours and with darkness falling quickly, Mark and I were done. But it was certainly an experience worth repeating, and one that I hope more people get to experience for themselves in the near future as well.
