Truckee, California It took a passion for aviation and the Truckee Tahoe Airport District to bring a relatively small group of volunteers and sponsors together on Saturday, July 12 to produce the free Truckee Tahoe AirFair & Family Festival at the Truckee Tahoe Airport. The Truckee Tahoe Airport sponsored the 2014 fundraising event, as well as paying for all its operational costs, while three non-profit groups focused on throwing an event while raising money for Truckee North Tahoe youth. This event has become an annual event since 2012, and has grown into a weekend adventure for vendors, volunteers, and especially the resident’s of Truckee- both young and old! All proceeds raised from 2012 and 2013 event sponsorships, non-marketing grants, vendor and exhibit booth sales and food sales went directly back to our Truckee North Tahoe youth through the efforts of the three non-profit organizations, Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1073, KidZone Museum and the Truckee Optimist Club. The last 2 years combined raised $97,000 for local youth. With the success of the last two years AirFair’s a benchmark just waiting to be passed, the 2014 show was everything expected and more. Some of the key performers that were flying high on Saturday were Kent Pietsch, who is known all over the world for his ability to execute a rooftop landing on top of a moving RV in his Interstate Cadet Airplane, as well as the Red Star Formation Team and the U.S. Air Force Parachute Team “Wings of Blue.” I was fortunate enough to enjoy one of my recent Saturday’s at the 2014 AirFair, and together with my three young children had an experience that was nothing short of unbelievable. Watching these highly trained and skilled performers showcase their passion for flying under a cloudless, brilliant blue sky was the ideal way to spend a Saturday with my family. My young boys especially enjoyed being able to climb around some of the stationary airplanes imagining themselves flying high one day as well. Photo Gallery
