The Char-Pit began as a walk up hamburger stand in 1962, and for the first 15 years of operations was only open during the summer months. Finally in 1977, the building was enclosed and “Char-burgers” became available year round. 52 years after first opening, the Char Pit is still going strong and satisfying the appetites of happy visitors to King’s Beach and locals throughout the North Tahoe area. The burgers are clearly the main attraction, but it’s hard to decide what menu item deserves the 2nd place prize, because the menu is full of deserving candidates. The french fries are cooked to order and always come out hot and fresh. The shakes and frosties are the perfect addition to any meal and a great way to satisfy those sweet cravings on a warm summer day.
