October Snow Signals Winter is Coming

Truckee, California We got a nice blast of snow this week, signalling that winter is right around the corner. After a relatively warm and mild late October weekend, the weather changed quickly on Sunday as temperatures dropped and the clouds rolled in. We woke up on Monday to a thick blanket of fresh snow, 6 -12 inches fell in most areas, with the higher elevations and ski resorts picking up a foot or more. The timing of this snowfall seemed to come right on cue, as Northstar California Resort was scheduled to start their own snowmaking efforts on the very same day. With Opening Day scheduled for November 22nd at Northstar, this foot of snow was a welcomed head start, and the mountain is now taking on its winter appearance. Check out the photos taken on Monday. As ski season quickly approaches, everyone's attention is now turning to ski and snowboard gear and making sure their equipment is ready for the slopes and the many fresh powder days soon to come. Again right on cue, this Saturday November 2nd is the 31st Annual Truckee Ski and Snowboard Swap. Located in the Community Recreation Center on Donner Pass Road, the swap will be held this Saturday from 11 to 4. Whether you are looking to get rid of old equipment or are hoping to find a great deal on some needed equipment upgrades, the swap is the perfect place to do both. Admission is $2, kids 12 and under are free, and all proceeds benefit Truckee Youth Sports Programs. Head to the swap on Saturday and see if there isn't something you need for the upcoming winter season. There are sure to be some great finds, and you'll be helping out a worthy cause at the same time. Photo Galleryno images were found
