Autumn Food and Wine Festival The Village at Northstar This past weekend, running from September 5th through the 7th, was the 29th Annual Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival! This event was recently named as THE premier food, wine, brew and spirits festival in Northern California and the Sierra Nevada area. This annual event has become a treasured weekend that its many supporters circle on their calendars months in advance, with a variety of booths and exhibits available every day of the weekend. Each day brought different activities for visitors to try out, with several handpicked examples of activities from the past weekend listed below: Friday, September 5th Art of the Cocktail at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. Participants journeyed back to pre-prohibition days when cocktails were the highlight and beer, wine and other beverages were not in fashion. This entertaining, educational experience featured three bourbons, whiskey, vodka and gin cocktails paired with appetizers. North Tahoe Arts Plein Air Artists Reception & Wine Tasting at
Petra A Gala Reception & Fundraising Event benefiting North Tahoe Arts hosted by Petra. This reception was then followed by a “Meet the Artist” reception that took place from 4-6pm at Petra Wine Bar located in the Northstar Village. A special winemaker was showcasing wines at Petra, and the event concluded with event judges deciding on a “Best of Show” for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Competition artwork was also made available for early sale. Saturday, September 6th North Tahoe Arts Plein Air Painting Display An invited jury of artists spent three days in the North Lake Tahoe region creating extraordinary Plein Air paintings the week prior to the festival. On Saturday and Sunday, those creations were on display and made available for purchase in the Village. A portion of the proceeds supported North Lake Tahoe Arts, a non-profit organization whose mission has been promoting and supporting the arts in the Truckee-Tahoe communities for 24 years. There was also live painting demonstrations and guests had the opportunity to vote for the “People’s Choice” Award. Village Wine and Brew Walk Lucky participants who joined the Village Wine and Brew Walk Saturday were able to get their taste buds ready for the Sunday Grand Tasting. Leisurely tasting, shopping and visiting with friends at the casual afternoon soiree is always a big attraction every year on Saturday. Wines featured ranged from Napa, Sonoma, Eldorado, Lodi, Suisun Valley, the Foothills, Nevada City, Central Coast and beyond. Beer aficionados also enjoyed fresh, cold craft beers from Stella, Goose Island, Kona Brewery and more. Sunday, September 7, 2014 Gourmet Marketplace Vendor Fair Some of the finest local and regional gourmet goodies at the open-air marketplace in The Village were open for lucky samplers. Vendors displayed kitchen gadgets, fine linens and clothing, exquisite handmade jewelry, fine art, photography and various spa products as well.
