An Exciting Day Trip to Nevada City

Nevada City, California It’s hard to say enough great things about the incredible location we enjoy here in Truckee. Our close proximity to Lake Tahoe offers the opportunity for so much entertainment and relaxation. Our location in the mountains provides a plethora of winter activities as we are right in the center of several world-class ski resorts. In addition to our convenient location to all things Tahoe, we can easily access numerous remarkable cities, towns and even climates with just a short drive. One great example of a nearby special town is Nevada City. About an hour drive west toward Sacramento, Nevada City is an old mining town from the California Gold Rush. It’s full of historical buildings and architecture and has been so well preserved that it feels like you have gone back in time as you walk its magical streets. In fact, several of the buildings have been placed on the national Register of Historical Places and been given status as a California Historical Landmark. Today, Nevada City attracts tourists throughout the year, who visit Nevada City for all sorts of outdoor recreation, history, fine arts, entertainment and special events. Our recent visit to Nevada City included mostly an exploration of the downtown shops, boutiques and restaurants. It was a beautiful day and there was so much to see and explore. Mateo’s Pub gets a strong recommendation for a great menu and delicious food and the Nevada City Chocolate Shoppe is the perfect place to satisfy your post meal sweet tooth. The rush of sugar gives you plenty of energy to explore all the great shops and stores. Next time you find yourself wondering what to do on a beautiful day in Tahoe consider an excursion to Nevada City.
