Truckee Tahoe Airport, Truckee, California Over the weekend, Truckee Tahoe Airport held their annual 2013 Truckee Tahoe AirFair & Family Festival. It’s a great event to attend over the 4th of July weekend for families and aircraft aficionado’s alike! Entry is free and all proceeds go to local youth programs, scholarships and organizations. Many local vendors set up shop as well. It’s an awesome affair for visitors and locals to enjoy the beautiful summer weather. Attendees were lucky enough during the opening ceremony to hear what Chesley B. “Sully’ Sullenberger, III had to say. The well recognized Captain was able to safely land his plane on the Hudson River, saving the lives of 155 crew and passengers! Following "Sully's" remarks, the aerial show really got started. All sorts of planes were zipping around, gliding and looping like you wouldn’t believe. Female pilots showed off their skills as well as male. Some of the planes showcased by the pilots were the L39 Albatros Jet, YAK 52s, Pitts S-2C, and an Edge540 Aircraft to name a few. Rides were given on the day of the AirFair in the P51 Man O’War and the SNJ/T6 belonging to The Commemorative Air Force SoCal Wing. 10% of proceeds from ride costs went to Truckee/North Tahoe Youth. There was also an event planned for the next day, which you could sign up for at the AirFair. Free Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1073 Young Eagles flights for kids ages 8 to 17 were offered. If you happened to miss out, definitely include the Truckee Tahoe AirFair in your 4th of July weekend schedule next year! AirFair Photo Gallery
