This weekend the world of competitive mountain biking will descend upon Northstar, California. Presented by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association (NLTRA), this Enduro World Series (EWS) event (the second to last of the year) will host 600 of the world’s top mountain bikers. They will be put through 2 days of grueling competition, competition that will test, not only their endurance, but also their technical abilities.

One thing is for certain about the town of Truckee, not to mention all those who choose to live here, and that is that there is absolutely no shortage of vitality—there’s just something in the water. With that being said, there are several outdoor events taking place over the next few weeks which might have to be enjoyed in the cold rain (and perhaps snow), but which will be enjoyed fervently nonetheless, for they will be attended by the spirited locals and visitors that make Truckee such a vibrant and special place.

Here it is, mid April, and Northstar is officially reporting over 599 inches of total snowfall on the season. The magical winter scenery that enveloped us this year certainly inspires optimism as we move further into 2019, where new leadership of some entities in Northstar combined with a very effective real estate design makeover makes me sense boundless opportunities.

This month, over the weekend of November 16th, Northstar will kick the season off by hosting its Welcome to Winter celebration. This will include family sleigh rides, complimentary family photos, face painting, holiday sales, and interactive balance demonstrations with the Burton Academy. This action-packed weekend will be one not soon forgotten. Then, on the 29th, the first official Silent Night will be held at the Village ice-skating rink. Skates will be available to rent as well as headphones. Skaters can listen to that evening’s Christmas movie projected on the big outdoor screen. Participants will also have the option of switching over to a station playing a selection of timeless holiday tunes. Ice-skating while listening to Bing Crosby’s rendition of Silent Night? That’s a fine recipe for merrymaking.
