The Season of Giving is Celebrated at Old Greenwood

Season of Giving Member Mixer, Old Greenwood, California

Giving back to the community has always been a top priority of the Tahoe Mountain Club and it’s members, and once again they are striving to provide assistance where it is needed. Saturday evening, the Club hosted a member mixer in the Pavillion at Old Greenwood showcasing the holiday season as a season of giving to those in need. Delicious appetizers were provided for the members to enjoy as well as complimentary beer and wine at the bar. A two man band played lively tunes on the guitar, which complemented the already friendly and festive atmosphere of the mixer. All of this was put on in the hopes of raising money for families in need this holiday season.

The focal point of Saturday night’s event was the Giving Tree. The tree, which will be displayed in the Pavillion through December, is full of leaves that represent families in need this holiday season. Each leaf on the tree has a dollar amount written on it, and that amount is what is necessary to provide a holiday meal for a needy family. The member turnout was great and the generosity very apparent as many Tahoe Mountain Clubbers plucked leaves from the tree in the hopes of making the holidays a little better for someone else. It was a win win event for all. The members had a great opportunity to enjoy a fun mixer with friends and family, while at the same time giving a boost to the less fortunate in our community.

All donations will be sent directly to Project MANA, and a simple donation of $25 is enough to provide a meal for a family of four. Project MANA’s mission is to “reduce the incidence of hunger and its detrimental effects upon individuals, the local community and the region.” Since 1991, their role in the community has been to act as a safety net for the low income community who many times do not know where their next meal is coming from.

Each year for the past ten years, Tahoe Mountain Club and its members have raised enough money to provide a holiday dinner to all families in need within the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe communities, totalling approximately 600 families annually. The Giving Tree will be displayed in the Pavillion at Old Greenwood through December. It’s a great way to give back to the community and help support those a little less fortunate. Please consider a donation to this worthwhile cause. It really does make a difference.
